Quick answer: As of October 28, 2026, a gram of pure 24K gold is worth $130.17 at spot, which is the troy ounce price of $4,048.80 divided by 31.1034768. Step down the karat ladder and the same gram is $119.32 in 22K, $97.63 in 18K, $75.93 in 14K and $54.24 in 10K. Those are melt values: what the gold inside the piece is worth, not what a shop will pay you or charge you.
Every karat, every common weight
The table below multiplies each karat's share of pure gold by the live gram price, then scales it to the weights people actually put on a scale, from a single gram up to a hundred. Find your karat down the side and your weight across the top.
| Karat | 1 g | 2 g | 5 g | 10 g | 20 g | 25 g | 50 g | 100 g |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10K | $54.24 | $108.48 | $271.19 | $542.38 | $1,084.77 | $1,355.96 | $2,711.92 | $5,423.83 |
| 14K | $75.93 | $151.87 | $379.67 | $759.34 | $1,518.67 | $1,898.34 | $3,796.68 | $7,593.36 |
| 18K | $97.63 | $195.26 | $488.14 | $976.29 | $1,952.58 | $2,440.72 | $4,881.45 | $9,762.90 |
| 22K | $119.32 | $238.65 | $596.62 | $1,193.24 | $2,386.49 | $2,983.11 | $5,966.21 | $11,932 |
| 24K | $130.04 | $260.08 | $650.21 | $1,300.42 | $2,600.84 | $3,251.04 | $6,502.09 | $13,004 |
Read it as a ceiling. A 10 g chain in 14K shows $759.34 here, and that is the value of the gold in it before any dealer margin, refining cost or time is taken out. Section four below puts a name on those deductions.
The conversion in one line, run with today's numbers
You never need a special tool to rebuild any cell in that table. The rule is: gram price = ounce price ÷ 31.1034768, then × the karat fraction.
Take today's feed. $4,048.80 divided by 31.1034768 gives $130.17 for a gram of pure gold. Multiply by 14/24 (that is 58.3%, the share of gold in 14K) and you land on $75.93. Multiply by 18/24 and you get $97.63. For 10K the fraction is 10/24, which gives $54.24. Prefer pennyweights? The same spot divided by 20 gives $202.44 per pennyweight, a unit our pennyweight page covers in full.
If you know the weight, one more step finishes the job. Say a bracelet weighs 25 g and is stamped 585. Multiply 25 by the 14K gram figure and the answer is $1,898.34. Swap the stamp for 750 and the same bracelet becomes $2,440.72. Same weight, same spot, different purity, and the gap between the two numbers is the whole reason the karat matters.
Which karat page do you need?
This page compares all the karats at once. When you hold a specific piece, go to the page built around its stamp:
- A wedding band or chain stamped 585: the 14K gold price per gram page, which also explains why buyers pay below the table.
- A class ring or budget piece stamped 417: the 10K gold price per gram page.
- Fine jewelry stamped 750, in yellow, white or rose: the 18K gold price per gram page.
- South Asian bangles or a coin stamped 916: the 22K gold price per gram page.
- A bar, a bullion round or anything stamped 999: the 24K gold price per gram page.
Not sure what the stamp means? The gold purity chart maps every mark to a karat and a percentage, and the gold value calculator turns a weight and a karat into a figure without any arithmetic on your part.
Scale accuracy and rounding
The table is only as good as the weight you feed it. A kitchen scale that rounds to the nearest gram can be off by up to half a gram on every reading. On a 24K gram worth $130.17, that is an error of a few dollars per weighing; on a 100 g bar of 10K scrap it would be several times larger in absolute terms. A jeweler's scale reading to 0.01 g removes most of that doubt, and it is what any serious buyer will use.
Rounding works against you in the opposite direction on our side. The figures on this page are rounded to the cent, so a multi-gram total computed by hand from a rounded gram price can differ from the table by a few cents. That is arithmetic, not a pricing disagreement. When the total matters, multiply the unrounded spot by the exact weight and purity, which is what the calculator does.
Two habits keep errors small. Weigh a piece with every non-gold part removed (stones, enamel, clasps with steel springs, and watch movements), and weigh in grams rather than converting from some other unit in your head.
Gram, pennyweight, ounce: three scales for one metal
Gold trades in a handful of units, and mixing them up is the most common way a quote goes wrong.
| Unit | Weight in grams | Where you meet it |
|---|---|---|
| Gram | 1 | Jewelry tags, scrap buyers, most online calculators |
| Pennyweight (dwt) | about 1.555 | Jewelers' benches, pawn counters, refiners' price sheets |
| Troy ounce | about 31.103 | Spot price, coins, bars, futures |
The per-ounce number is the headline everyone quotes, so it is the one to learn first; our price per ounce page explains why gold uses the troy ounce rather than the heavier one in your kitchen. Once you hold that, the per-gram figure is a simple division and the per-pennyweight figure is spot over twenty.

What this table cannot tell you
A price-per-gram table gives you the metal's value on a given minute. It cannot tell you what a particular buyer will pay for your piece, what a dealer will charge you for a coin, or whether the item is solid gold at all. It does not subtract the cost of melting, and it does not add a collector premium for rare dates or makers. The feed behind it is spot, which differs slightly from the futures-based chart on our gold value chart home page; the gap on the latest reading is +$12.80. If you are weighing a purchase instead, the where to buy gold guide explains premiums over spot. For the numbers a seller should expect to receive, read the 14K page's worked example, where a 12 pennyweight piece worth $1,417.08 in melt is offered $1,133.66 at an 80% payout.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert the gold price per ounce to a price per gram?
Divide the troy ounce price by 31.1034768. With spot at $4,048.80, that gives $130.17 for pure gold. Multiply the result by the karat fraction, such as 14/24, to get the value of a gram of 14K. Remember this is a troy ounce, not the ounce on a kitchen scale.
Why is the 14K gram price so much lower than the 24K price?
Because 14K is only 58.3% gold by weight. The remaining 41.7% is copper, silver, zinc or similar metal that adds strength and color but almost no value. A gram of 14K therefore holds about 58 cents of pure gold for every dollar of 24K gold.
Is the price per gram the same as what a buyer will pay me?
No. The table is melt value, the worth of the pure gold inside. Buyers who must test, melt and refine your item pay a share of that figure, with ranges reported by the trade running from roughly 60-85% at local buyers up to 90-98% at refiners who take large lots.
Does the gram price change during the day?
Yes. Spot moves whenever markets are open. This page is rebuilt every six hours and the figures re-tick each minute in your browser, and every number carries an as-of stamp so you can see how fresh it is.
How many grams are in a troy ounce?
One troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams. A pennyweight is one twentieth of that, about 1.55517 grams. An ordinary avoirdupois ounce, the one on a food scale, is lighter at about 28.35 grams.
Can I use this to price a coin?
Only partly. For a bullion coin such as an American Gold Eagle, which holds exactly one troy ounce of gold, the table gives you the melt floor. Dealers charge a premium over that floor, and rare dates can sell for far more.
